Alaska has two huge national forests: the 17-million-acre Tongass, which covers most of southeast Alaska and contains 120,000 acres of lakes and more than 20,000 miles of streams and the 6-million-acre Chugach in south-central Alaska, which has 70,000 acres of fishable lakes and 8,000 miles of streams.
